STUDIO 41, Netto’s supermarket and Bamboo Tiger have been demolished on New Dover Street to make way for a Student Union and accommodation.
The Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) project was announced in 2010 and has received stiff criticism during the past 12 months from residents clearly displeased with the university’s expansion.
Jane Redman from the city said: “I live smack bang in between Christ Church and their library which means this new building will be on top of me. I already have enough problems with drunken students returning from the various nightclubs, let alone more in the area with new accommodation.”
Meanwhile, Kerri Davies says: “It’s ridiculous now. The university is taking over the city and the noise and mess will only increase. Both universities are competing for space and it’s the locals who will suffer as they are stuck in the middle.”
